Army Welfare Service Paderborn

The Army Welfare Service

aws-logo-newMuch of the support available to Army personnel and their families is given through the Army Welfare Service (AWS), a professional and confidential welfare support service for servicemen and women and their families, wherever they are located.

The Army Welfare Service has two main tasks: Community Support and Personal Support.

Community Support
The Army Welfare Service aims to provide Community Centres, Pre-school groups, Youth clubs, Young peoples activities during school holidays, learning opportunities; just about everything the Service community requires. However, none of these things will be possible without your help.

There are lots of opportunities to work with young people both in sport and community activities. Training is provided which can lead to qualifications in Youth & Community work.

See your local Community Worker and volunteer to support your community.  You can find the address of your local Army Welfare Service Office or Community Centre in your local Service Community Guide

Personal Support
As well as the rewards and pleasures associated with military life, there are particular demands and challenges that come out of the special nature of life in the army.  The army recognizes this and there are many layers of welfare support available.

The aim of AWS Personal Support is to help serving married and single personnel, and families with any personal or family difficulties that arise, by providing a confidential and professionally based specialised welfare service

Trained and supervised Army Welfare Workers covering UK and British Forces Germany work to professional standards to provide a confidential Personal Support Service to serving soldiers and their families.  We will listen and explore the available options with you.

Some of the issues AWS can help with include:

Relationship difficulties
Bereavement
CSA concerns
Parenting skills
Child care
Special Needs

What about confidentiality?

AWS operates a strict confidentiality policy, in accordance with legal requirements, to ensure that personal information is not passed to anyone outside of AWS without the person's consent. There are a few exceptions to this principle involving situations when there is risk to self or other, serious criminal acts including breaches of security, or if operational effectiveness is seriously compromised.  Everyone, who uses the AWS, has a right to see personal information held about them, this is in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998.

How do you contact us ?  You can contact AWS direct.  We will respond as quickly as we can, usually within 7 days.  We may ask you to come to the nearest AWS office, if this is not possible we will come to you.
